How can AI technology contribute to the fight against disinformation? What are its legal and technological limits in this function? The presentation will introduce the ongoing approaches and explore the developing legislative environment for applying algorithms in online content moderation and content curation, in particular in ranking, targeting and detecting desinformation.

Judit Bayer is Senior Research Fellow of ITM at the University of Münster, and associate professor of media law and international law at the Budapest Business School, Hungary. Her research field is freedom of expression and media freedom and pluralism. She has a PhD in constitutional law (internet regulation). Judit Bayer has authored several books, policy papers and articles in the field of media law and is chief editor of the Hungarian academic quarterly „Media Research“. In the past four years she specialised in disinformation, hate speech, SLAPP, and the human rights requirements of AI systems. She is an experienced speaker at conferences and public lectures, as well as a university lecturer. Her most recent edited volume is Perspectives on Platform Regulation. Concepts and Models of Social Media Governance Across the Globe. (Edited by Judit Bayer, Bernd Holznagel, Päivi Korpisaari, and Lorna Woods.)
