Attention all tech enthusiasts! We are excited to announce a special webinar featuring Kate Darling, a leading expert on the social and ethical implications of robotics from the MIT Media Lab. The webinar, taking place on February 13th, 2023, will focus on the topic of ‚How to think about robots‘.
During the Q&A session, attendees will have the opportunity to ask Darling their burning questions and gain valuable insights into the future of artificial intelligence. Don’t miss out on this chance to learn from a leading expert in the field.
Mark your calendars and join us on February 13th for a thought-provoking and informative discussion on the intersection of technology and society. We look forward to seeing you there!
Kate Darling is one of the leading voices in the public debate around ethical and lawful use of AI and robots. She’s a research scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Media Lab, where she investigates social robotics and conducts experimental studies on human-robot interaction. And she has previously studied Swiss Law. Kate explores the emotional connection between people and life-like machines, seeking to influence technology design and policy direction. Her writing and research anticipate difficult questions that lawmakers, engineers, and the wider public will need to address as human-robot relationships evolve in the coming decades.
Her book „The New Breed“ has won the New Scientist’s award as Best Book of the Year 2021. With her clear observations on robots, her witty conclusions on their societal impacts and her entertaining style of writing, makes us see robots as cute pets and risk technology at once. Kate Darling’s groundbreaking book should be in the shelf of everyone interested in AI and Robotics.
An extract of the blurb summarizes her intellectual endeavour:
„From a social, legal, and ethical perspective, she shows that our current ways of thinking don’t leave room for the robot technology that is soon to become part of our everyday routines. Robots are likely to supplement―rather than replace―our own skills and relationships. So if we consider our history of incorporating animals into our work, transportation, military, and even families, we actually have a solid basis for how to contend with this future.“
We are happy that Kate Darling will join our RAILS webinar and will let us pester her with our questions. If possible, read the book before the webinar and pose your most pressing questions to Kate.
